Tonia Maddison @ South Hill Park Arts Centre, Bracknell
21 April 2016 - 12 June 2016
The Jurassic coast is a place of memories and family connections that informs Tonia Maddison’s work Between Tide and Landslide. She has spent many hours observing the interaction between land and sea, gathering fossils and stones to use as inspiration.
Her work is about connectedness to this place, the touch, texture and essence of it. There is a recurrence of marks made and objects used that relate to collecting, to ideas of holding on and containment, grasping at the changing and eroding of the coast and of memories.
“The land is fluid and inconstant, exposed to the weather and tide disrupting its surface – to reveal the history or memory held within it” – Tonia Maddison.
