Superwoman @ GRAD

18 June 2016 - 17 September 2016

Curated by Dr Natalia Murray, actor and award winning filmmaker Dolya Gavanski and art critic and writer Nadia Plungian, the exhibition presents a fascinating exploration of the iconography of the Soviet woman in propaganda from the October Revolution of 1917 to the fall of the Soviet Union and the arrival of Perestroika in 1991. This exhibition, the 10th in GRAD’s Academy programme, charts the development of the Soviet woman and assesses what her legacy is today.  It features posters, collages, sculpture, ceramics, drawings, photography and film, the exhibition explores what it meant to be a Soviet ‘Superwoman’ and how these State ideals translated into everyday life.
