Rachel Maclean @ British Art Show 8, Edinburgh

The supersaturated, candy-coloured worlds of Rachel Maclean’s films are created with the help of green screen technology. Populated by shifting, ghoulish characters – each one played by Maclean – they are inspired by fairytales, horror films and TV talent shows and offer a sharp critique of contemporary culture.
Maclean’s new film Feed Me (2015) – produced by Film and Video Umbrella (FVU) – is an exploration of the commercialisation (and sexualisation) of childhood, and a corresponding infantilism in adult behaviour. As we feed the monster of contemporary consumerist desire, Maclean’s film is a record of all the little monsters that are created in its wake.
For British Art Show 8 in Edinburgh Rachel Maclean’s work will be exhibited at Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art
