Lydia Corbett @ Mall Galleries

2 October 2018 - 7 October 2018

Lydia Corbett (nickname) Sylvette was Picasso’s muse, and he turned her radiant beauty into art, making some of his finest paintings. Later, he created an entirely new art form for her; Sylvettes in sheet metal, and later monumental Sylvette sculptures. Their meeting altered Sylvette’s life although she already had artistic aspirations for herself, as art was in her blood: her mother was an artist and her father a well-respected art dealer.
Throughout the course of an itinerant and somewhat erratic life, Lydia Corbett found a single and enduring strength of purpose through painting and sculpture. It is these works, embodying both her past as inspirational muse and her present as consummate artist, that is exhibited here.
Over 200 artworks are in the exhibition, along with a special installation, Peace and Freedom created by the artist. Works on show include oils and watercolours along with ceramics and other three-dimensional works.
