Curator-led tour of Emily Carr at Dulwich Picture Gallery
Ian Desjardin, the Sackler Director of Dulwich Picture Gallery will be our guide to the first UK exhibition dedicated to Emily Carr – one of Canada’s most beloved and esteemed artists, virtually unknown outside Canada. The exhibition will trace a dramatic trajectory from darkness to light. Visitors will first encounter Carr’s brooding, often claustrophobic forest scenes and the show will culminate in a display of Carr’s later euphoric sky paintings, rhythmic light-filled beach scenes and clear-cut landscapes. In this transition from darkness to light, we will discover Carr the inquisitive documentarian, encountering a culture and a landscape that challenged her way of seeing and understanding the world.

Meet in the Gallery Café from 9:30 for a quick coffee/tea before the tour (cost not included in tour price) — tour starts at 10 a.m. Option to stay for self-host lunch following. Please indicate whether you will stay for lunch in your reply.
Cost: Patrons £10, Friends £15; Guests £20. RSVP to RSVP@UKFriendsofNMWA.org.
