East and North London morning — 31 Women: Frydman: Neel — curator led tours
20 June 2017 at 11:00 am - 1:00 pm
Please join us for a morning exploring contemporary art in East and North London. We will meet at Breese Little in Bethnal Green, where we will enjoy coffee and croissants and a private tour of their upcoming show, 31 Women. The exhibition channels the pioneering spirit of the exhibition at Peggy Guggenheim’s New York gallery in 1943. Featuring artists within Guggenheim’s circle, 31 Women will combine work by women artists from the 1940s to the present day, including work by Eileen Agar, Rana Begum, Cornelia Parker, Bridget Riley, Gillian Wearing and Rachael Whiteread.
We will then visit French artist Monique Frydman’s first UK exhibition, held at the brilliant Parasol Unit, near the Regent’s Canal in New Wharf Road, N1. We will be lead through her vibrant and evocative abstract paintings by the curator.
We will finish the morning at Victoria Miro, a few steps away, with a curator led tour around Alice Neel, Uptown. The exhibition focuses on paintings made by the artist during the five decades in which she lived and worked in Manhattan and contains her characteristically intimate and direct portraits. It is a personal and fascinating depiction of the many neighbourhoods and personalities that touched the artist.
There is an option for all to join us for lunch (self treat).
Price: free for Patrons; £10 for Friends and guests.
RSVP to RSVP@UKFriendsofNMWA.org. Please make cheques payable to UK Friends of NMWA and post to Box 539, 28 Old Brompton Road, London SW7 3SS.
