Description

Join us for an exclusive studio visit and lunch with award winning, multidisciplinary artist Lucia Pizzani. Welcome coffees / teas will be provided on arrival.  The visit begins with a short film in the participation room. Here we will have an opportunity to view a selection of work before proceeding to the studio space to gain further insight into Pizzani’s practice and methods.

We will then head to Conuco Venezuelan Kitchen 5 minutes walk away for a self-treat lunch. Lucia will talk about the food there, the myths and history of corn, the Amazonian flower of passion fruit and more. This promises to be a truly unique experience.

Pizzani was born in Caracas, Venezuela in 1975 and moved to London in 2007. She works in a wide variety of media, including sculpture, photography, printmaking, drawing and performance. At the core of her work is a focus on the interrelationship between stories of women in history and literature, and processes of metamorphosis in the natural world. Pizzani’s research-based practice is informed by her studies in conservation biology and her involvement in Venezuela’s environmental movement. She prioritises natural materials, tracing their origins and migrations in her art.

Pizzani’s work is held in important UK and Latin American art collections, including Tate. Her first UK institutional show, Faunal Succession, opens Wed 25 March to Sat 30 May at Focal Point Gallery.

Pricing: Patrons and a guest – free; Friends – £20, Guests – £30.
