Description

Join us for a pre-hours visit to Rose Wylie’s much acclaimed exhibition at the RA, ‘The Picture Comes First’, with an introductory talk by Rose’s artist manager, Rodolphe von Hofmannsthal. Wylie is the first female British artist to have an exhibition across all galleries at the RA and was the UK nominee from the UK Friends of NMWA to Women to Watch in 2010.

This exhibition brings together Wylie’s most iconic artworks with brand-new and previously unseen paintings, in the biggest exhibition of the artist’s work to date. Her work is alive with references to cinema, celebrities, literature, and ancient civilisations. Her cast of characters—primarily women—includes Elizabeth I, Nicole Kidman, Marilyn Monroe, Serena Williams, and Snow White. These cultural and historical references rub alongside her own experiences, such as living through the Blitz as a young girl.

Meet in the foyer of the RA for our 8.30 introductory talk before exploring the exhibition independently.

Pricing: Patrons and one guest – free; Friends – £20, Guests – £30.
