Please join us on an overnight excursion June 19-20 to see the groundbreaking exhibition “Lavinia Fontana: Trailblazer, Rule Breaker” at the National Gallery of Ireland. This is the first solo exhibition dedicated to the artist in over 20 years, since the exhibition “Lavinia Fontana of Bologna” was shown at NMWA. The trip will give us the opportunity to learn in-depth about the work of Renaissance artist Lavinia Fontana, considered to be the first female professional artist in history, and to view one of NMWA’s most important historical works, on loan to the exhibition.
The full program is as follows:
Monday June 19th
6:00pm – Wine and Art at Kerlin Gallery
We will view the work of Victoria Morton in the exhibition “Double Trouble” (alongside the work of her partner Merlin James) as well as a special hang of the gallery’s women artists.
Tuesday June 20th
11:00am – Studio visit with Isabel Nolan at Temple Bar Gallery + Studios
12:30 – Self-treat lunch with Dr. Aiofe Brady, Curator of Italian and Spanish Art at the National Gallery of Ireland, and curator of the Fontana exhibition
2:00 – Tour of “Lavinia Fontana: Trailblazer, Rule Breaker” with Dr. Aiofe Brady, curator. Participants can then explore the permanent collection at their leisure.
Participants will organize their own transportation and accommodation. We suggest booking a flight landing in Dublin by 4:00pm on the 19th, and departing after 6:00pm on the 20th.
