Description
Biscotti, a glass of limoncello and photographs of Sicily – all the elements for a fabulous evening. Join us as we listen to Alys Tomlinson discuss her latest body of work Gli Isolani (The Islanders) documenting cultures in Sicily. Tomlinson will be in conversation with Fiona Rogers, the recently named Parasol Foundation Curator of Women in Photography at the V&A.
Tomlinson captures the little-known rituals and traditions inspired by paganism, fables and folklore. This series provides a connection between people and place providing a rich visual language that reflects the complex history and cross-cultural influences that these lands have experienced. She explores boundaries between fiction and reality, artifice and nature and provide a mediation on place, faith and identity.
Tomlinson has previously joined UK Friends of NMWA for a captivating Zoom session, discussing her Taylor Wessing prize winning photography from The Lost Summer, depicting 44 teenagers in their (missed) prom clothing
