Description

UK Friends of NMWA Patrons are invited to join us for a studio visit and coffee with the iconic British artist, Eileen Cooper RA. Her studio is in South London and part of her lovely home.

With a career spanning more than four decades, Eileen has been a vital force in British art, shaping the cultural landscape as both an artist and an educator. Eileen holds an honorary fellowship from the RCA and made history as the first woman elected Keeper of the RA Schools since its founding in 1768. Her contributions to art and art education were formally recognised in 2016 when Queen Elizabeth II appointed her an OBE.

With the female figure and identity central to her practice, Eileen draws inspiration from all forms of art, art history, mythology, and fairytales – to weave allegory and autobiography into imagery that is at once bold, tender and relatable. Her work is held in major public and private collections including Tate, the British Museum and the Royal Collection.

Formerly Tutor and Keeper at the RA, Eileen is on the committee for this year’s Summer Exhibition and will share her insights on this as well as giving us an early preview of her exciting new work for her upcoming solo exhibition at Kristin Hjellegjerde Gallery this September.

Please note: This event is for Patrons only. If you would like to become a patron, kindly email us.
