Women in the Arts Walking Tour
13 January 2016 at 10:30 am - 12:30 pm
Join us to discover the London connections to some unknown and unsung heroines of the arts. Women behind the scenes (literally) or those who were well known in their time will be re-introduced to us. We will “meet” designers and painters who brought magic to theatreland, a florist who mixed controversy with composition, dancers and actresses who knocked down walls, and the philanthropic women who funded it all.
Our guide, known for her dynamic presentation style and flare for bringing history to life, will regale us with stories of women artists including Angela Burdette-Coutts (philanthropist), Lilian Baylis (opera founder), Constance Spry (florist), Ninette de Valois (ballet) and Shirazeh Houshiary (sculptor).
There will be a well-deserved self-hosted lunch after the walk at the National Gallery cafe.

Ending Point: close to Leicester Square Station or Charing Cross
