Curator-led tour of Tacita Dean's "Still Life" at the National Gallery

25 April 2018 at 8:00 am - 10:00 am

We are delighted that National Gallery curator, Bart Cornelis, will lead us through Tacita Dean’s  exhibition at the National Gallery before the gallery opens to the public.  This exhibition is one of three London locations collaborating in showing multiple facets of Dean’s work this spring, showcasing Dean’s talents as both an artist and a curator. Guided by her own understanding of still life and its influence on her practice, the artist has curated a selection of works, ranging from 17th-century paintings to recently completed pieces in a variety of mediums, either by the artist herself or by her contemporaries. There is also a new film diptych, Ideas for Sculpture in a Setting created by Dean especially for the National Gallery exhibition.  The exhibition provides a forum for re-positioning concepts of still life and examines its legacy within the history of art. Timing:

8:45 am – Gallery doors open, giving time for you to drop off coats at the cloakroom.

9 am – Bart Cornelis leads a tour of the exhibition.

10 am – The Gallery opens to the public but we are welcome to stay.

Some of us will continue on a tour through Dean’s Portrait exhibition at the NPG, led by Millie Print, Coordinator and Curatorial Associate for the Young Masters Art Prize (Cynthia Corbett Gallery) who will provide an introduction to the work. Please do join us if time allows. Contribution: Patrons free, £15 Friends, £25 Visitors. RSVP to RSVP@UKFriendsofNMWA.org
