Visit to Aura Satz' Studio with Stephanie Rosenthal
27 September 2013 at 10:30 am - 11:30 am
Aura Satz Studio Visit: Dalston
Please join us for a visit to the studio of Aura Satz, led by Stephanie Rosenthal, Chief Curator, Hayward Gallery.
The work of Aura Satz encompasses film, sound, performance and sculpture. In recent years she has made a collection of films that look closely at sound visualisation through various technologies and acoustic devices such as the Chladni plate, the Ruben’s tube, the theremin, mechanical music, phonograph grooves and drawn/optical sound.
Satz says, “my work very often centres on uncovering women’s contributions to technology, such as my recent Hayward show on Hedy Lamarr’s invention of frequency hopping or my film on Daphne Oram, pioneer of electronic music.”
Frieze magazine says, “In her installations, films and performances, London-based artist Aura Satz explores this complex blend of human and machine. Her work is a mix of delight in archaic technologies and an engagement with the uncertainty they engender in terms of bodily perception and human agency.”
Satz recently showed in the Hayward Project Space and in “The Rest is Noise” recently at the Hayward Gallery, and we are fortunate to be led on our visit by their chief curator, Stephanie Rosenthal.
