Break out of the routine with an outing to three superb South London galleries, each bringing women to the fore. We will start at Gallery Corvi-Mora at 10 am, and end with a self-treat lunch.

First, Tommaso Corvi-Mora, Director of the eponymous gallery will speak about artist Dorota Jurczak. Polish-born Jurczak’s macabre, darkly whimsical works are influenced by folklore and mythology, combined with her own imagination.  In the bizarre, dream-like narrative of Jurczak’s work, distorted human figures, creeping woods, and anthropomorphic creatures play out their dramas in vibrantly-colored, indistinct space.  Perfect for the day before Halloween. Next Stop – Janice Kerbel at Greengrassi.  Luis Araujo, Gallery Manager will provide insight into the multi-disciplinary work of Kerbel (b. Canada, working London). A 2015 Turner Prize nominee, Kerbel explores notions of visibility through of forms that both promise and withhold the realisation of subsequent states, ultimately developing new forms.

Finishing With – A group show, “From the Inside Out” at The Drawing Room. The Drawing Room is the only public, non-profit gallery in the UK and Europe dedicated to the investigation and presentation of international contemporary drawing. The exhibition of female artists (Nilbar Güreş, Marie Jacotey, Athena Papadopoulos, Emma Talbot) explores the variety of ways that women use the immediacy of drawing to create personal narratives. Exhibitions Manager Jacqui McIntosh will delve into the underlying inspirations that the artists use to tell  stories about age, sexuality, the domestic and politics. After the food for thought, join us on a 5 minute walk to lunch (self-treat) at Mercato Metropolitano, the “Italian urban market of London.” Charge: Patrons – free, Friends – £10, Visitors – £20.
