Meet Photographer Dorothy Bohm at "In Hampstead 1994-2014"
3 June 2014 at 1:30 pm - 3:00 pm
Join us for a very special afternoon with eminent photographer Dorothy Bohm at Burgh House in Hampstead. Guided by both Dorothy Bohm herself and her daughter, art historian Monica Bohm-Duchen, we shall visit the exhibition In Hampstead 1994-2014: Photographs by Dorothy Bohm and then privately continue the discussion about her work, life and influences with snacks in the lovely music room. Dorothy Bohm was born in Prussia in 1924 and escaping the threat of Nazism moved to England in 1939. She has lived in Hampstead since the late 1950s and has travelled widely, documenting the world as she saw it. She began by capturing her intimate relationship with the area in black and white, later progressing to colour on the suggestion of Andre Kertesz. Bohm is known for her portraiture, street photography, early adoption of colour, and photography of London and Paris. She has exhibited widely, and is included in many important photography collections, including that of the V&A and the Tate. She was also co-founder of The Photographers Gallery. This exhibition focuses on her photographs of the last twenty years, many of which have never been publicly exhibited. Do not miss this opportunity to meet one of the doyennes of British photography. Free Patrons and £10 Friends/Guests. RSVP to RSVP@UKFriendsofNMWA.org
