In this new body of work Caroline Yates continues to explore notions of identity and semiotics; the concept of being recognized or classed by appearance and in particular, dress in Lot.
She is interested in how the circumstances of birth can dictate one’s course or trajectory – life’s lottery or one’s lot – particularly pertinent with current debate about entitlement and social migration. Some of the work is playful, denoting interactions between children ‘You think you know me’, ’Just watch me’ and ‘The Librarian’.
