Behind the scenes at the V&A: Friends and Patrons only
24 September 2015 at 10:30 am - 12:30 pm
A rare opportunity to go behind the scenes in the V&A Clothworkers’ Centre for the Study and Conservation of Textiles and Fashion, for a discussion of pre-eminent women designers through time.
We will be led on our visit by Sonnet Stanfill, curator of 20th century and contemporary fashion at the V&A, and the centre manager, Suzanne Smith. We shall tour the centre and the archive storage followed by a close examination of a handful of key objects from the archive. We will focus on a sampling of a few earlier and a few modern garments in the collection, with an emphasis on female makers, including Madeleine Vionnet, Madame Gres, Chanel, Vivienne Westwood.
Numbers are limited, so RSVP early. Cost Patrons £20; Friends £25. RSVP to RSVP@UKFriendsofNMWA.org. Post cheque to UK Friends of NMWA, Box 539, 28 Old Brompton Road, London SW7 3SS.
