Visit and Introductory Talk: Winifred Knights (1899-1947) at Dulwich Picture Gallery
14 June 2016 at 9:30 am - 11:00 am
Join us for an introductory talk and the opportunity to be one of the first to visit the latest in the series of exhibitions at Dulwich Picture Gallery of critically neglected Modern British artists. Inspired by the masterpieces of Italian Early Renaissance artists, painstakingly exact in her working methods, and even declared a genius, Winifred Knights (1899-1947) is one of the most original, pioneering British artists of the first half of the 20th century. The first major retrospective of the award-winning Slade School artist, this exhibition will reunite all her completed paintings for the first time since their creation, including the apocalyptic masterpiece The Deluge, 1920, which attracted immense critical acclaim. Nearly 120 intricate preparatory studies, illustrations and portraits that accompany the major works will provide a true insight into the artistic processes of the incredibly talented and under-appreciated woman artist. We will gather from 9:30 in the café and enter the exhibition at 10 when it opens. Those who wish to travel together from central London will meet at Victoria Station to catch the 9:10 train to West Dulwich and make the short walk to the Gallery. After the visit to the exhibition, you are welcome to visit the rest of the collection of Old Masters Paintings at Dulwich. Or just enjoy the lovely garden, which should be at its peak of summer beauty Cost: £15 for Patrons and Friends; £20 for guests RSVP to rsvp@UKFriendsofNMWA.org. and post cheque to Box 539, 28 Old Brompton Road, London SW7 3SS.
