Salon Series: Women Artists of the Middle East

26 September 2017 at 9:30 am - 11:00 am

Join us at our first Salon talk of the new subscription year to learn about Women Artists of the Middle East.  This engaging, topical subject will be examined by Maria Sukkar and Maryam Eisler, two art collectors and patrons who have particular insight into Middle Eastern art.
The dynamic pair will present an overview of the landscape for women artists of the Middle East:  should Middle Eastern women artists really be considered as one group? Does their work reveal distinct national/religious differences? Are the successful artists practicing in their native countries or is this an ex-patriot endeavour? Are there consistent themes within the women’s art?  What should collectors look for in this market?
Often cited as a pre-eminent collector, Ms Sukkar is a member of the International Council at Tate and sits on their Middle East and North Africa Acquisitions Committee and their Photography Acquisitions Committee. She is a trustee of the Showroom, the ICA, a member of the CaMMEA (Contemporary and Modern Middle East Acquisition) group of the British Museum and a Strategic Advisor to the Delfina Foundation among her many contributions to the art community.
Ms. Eisler is a photographer and renowned collector.  She also serves as a strategic advisor to the Delfina Foundation.  She co-chairs the Middle East and North Africa Acquisitions Committee of the Tate. Ms. Eisler is a founding member of the British Museum’s CaMMEA committee, and she has edited five books for Thames and Hudson.
Limited Places – Free to Patrons, £20 for Friends, £25 for Guests.  Coffee and croissants will be served.
